Hollywell Steam Rally

November 23, 2009

This was the Band's first outing to the Hollywell steam Rally and what was thought to be a long two days of concerting turned out to be very enjoyable! The band played very well indeed and had lots of positive feedback from the audience, enjoying music such as Concerto D'(Orange Juice!), Mack and Mabel, Glasnost, classic marches such as Death or Glory and more. There were a couple of "band moments" such as, Lynda's phone ringing several times having arrived at 10:30 from Suzy (horn player) saying "This place is huge, I have been wandering around for ages and cannot find any of the Band!!". Luckily, Suzy was reunited with the Band and we all ended up on stage on time! (Well, with the exception of Matt (Bass Player) who had driven back from Wales that morning and also found himself wandering around the Steam Rally past horses and a dancing JCB before finding the band a "few minutes late"!).

After playing our first two sets, it emerged that we had actually set up on the lorry facing the wrong way and were in fact playing to the road for the tractors and vintage cars to use! This actually proved to be quite entertaining as we played Great Escape as the tractors steamed past at 3pm. On the Sunday, the Band were old pro's at locating our lorry (and facing the right way) and the weather still managed to hold out which made it that much more enjoyable. Hollywell Steam Rally was a brilliant weekend, with so much to see and do.

Thank you very much to the organisers who looked after us and hope to see you next year! Thank you to the Band for playing their socks off and Thank you also to Kevin Steward and Nathan Waterman who conducted the Band over the two days, you did a great job!
