On Saturday, Raunds Temperance Band travelled to Bedworth Civic Hall to compete in the Midlands Area First Section contest. Drawn to play sixth, the band took to the stage to perform Andrew Wainwright’s Variations on ‘Was Lebet’. After a strong performance, we were absolutely delighted to be awarded 2nd place – our second consecutive year finishing as runners-up at the contest.

This result places Raunds at the top of the regional grading tables, meaning the band will be promoted to the Championship Section from 2027 – our first return to the top section since 2008. We will also be heading to the York Barbican in September to compete at the National Finals of Great Britain. It’s a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the dedication and hard work of all our players, along with the leadership and musical guidance of Musical Director Jonathan Pippen and conductor John Hudson.
